As a project manager, I’ve learned to have true success you need to understand clients’ needs and come up with strategies that save clients’ time and money. On one such occasion, a client came to us with a well thought out request for new functionality that matched an exciting new revenue stream for their business. Because of the positive upside, the company was willing to spend whatever was necessary to get the job done. We could have easily taken their specifications and the large sum required to meet those exact wants and everyone would have been happy. Instead, we took the time to ask probing questions to better understand their business objectives. Then we assembled a small team with varying experiences in direct sales field work, corporate management and technology.
Within one session we came up with a different way to meet the client’s business objectives in a slightly different way to utilize the existing software’s capabilities. This actually streamlined the client’s proposed process and ended up dramatically reducing their time-to-market while saving them tens of thousands of dollars in development costs. This client now engages us much earlier in the business decision making process as they have learned we have their best interests in mind. They intimately understand we live by our unwritten philosophy that our success is directly tied to our clients’ success.
